Policy Competition FAQs

 

Are footnotes or bibliography or reference list counted towards the word limit?

 

No. Only the body of the policy idea is counted.  ​

Is it necessary to include footnotes in the policy submission?

You don’t need to include footnotes, but you should give your sources of any factual claims you make, and you should acknowledge any other authors on whom you rely.

 

How strict is the age eligibility criteria?

 

Candidates must have turned 18 on or before 17 March 2024 and not have turned 36 before 18 March 2024.

 

May I submit more than one entry?

 

No. If you submit more than one policy idea, the first submission received will be the one that is judged. Any subsequent entries will not be read.

When can I expect to hear back?

Sunday, 17 March 2024: Submission deadline (23:59 is the final time essays may be submitted).

 

Early April: Short-listed candidates notified

 

Shortlisted candidates will proceed to a live pitch at No 10 in April with a panel composed of a government minister and senior policy experts at No 10. More details on the final will be shared with short-listed candidates.
